Prior Events
1971
Hungarian International Visitors Program delegation to the US: Hungary has a new policy toward exchanges with the U.S. which emphasizes exchanges in the scientific field and lifts the previous ban on government exchanges.
1972
2 American professors for 3-week to lecture on American English and American literature funded under the Fulbright-Hays institutional grants program supervised by the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare.
1st exchanges agreement between the U.S. and Hungary, entitled “Program of Cooperation and Exchanges between the Government of the USA and the Government of Hungary in Culture, Education, Science and Technology” was signed in Budapest on April 6, 1977.
The Fulbright Program began modestly, providing for two 1-month lectureships from each country for the academic years 1978-79 and 1979-80, a total of four Fulbright grantees.
2nd iteration of the exchanges agreement in 1979 extended the length of the Fulbright lectureship from 1 month to 1 semester during the academic years 1980-81 and 1981-82, but did not increase them in number, and they remained at two per country.
